Now that school will be back for in-person learning at all sites in the fall term, SRCS is anticipating having a number of openings for Instructional Assistants for general and special education. Most positions are between 30 and 40 hours per week. We offer excellent benefits, a solid retirement plan, and advancement opportunities.

Definition: Under supervision assists in cooperation with the resource specialist or classroom teacher in developing the necessary knowledge and skills of the students as prescribed by the curriculum. Examples of Duties: Cooperates in planning, understanding, developing, applying and assessing the education plan of individual youngsters as directed by the certificated supervisor; teaches the basic skills for emotional, physical, and intellectual development in accordance with the IEP; upon request, provides information to the School Assessment Team or other personnel in assessing and finding solutions for problems related to handicapped students; assists in providing and creating materials for use by children with handicaps; helps maintain physical school environment to keep it functional, safe, and clean; assists in pupil supervision; maintains a positive, constructive and open relationship with school staff, students, and parents; organizes files and records information; tests students; does clerical work as required; may work independently in classroom in absence of Resource Specialist; keeps current on law as it relates to special education; may administer first aid. Supervision: Is directly responsible to the resource specialist or special day class teacher. Qualifications: Intellectual capacity and adaptability to work with the handicapped; demonstrated ability to follow directions and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks; experience in working with handicapped children under the direction of a special education teacher desirable; some course work in dealing with children with handicaps preferred; knowledge of special education programs and goals helpful; understanding of children’s socio-emotional needs preferred; must be able to deal positively with children; must have both observational and reporting skills; must understand and appreciate that strict confidence is essential; ability to accommodate to a flexible schedule; possesses current Red Cross first aid certification; must past Basic Skills test administered by the District. Employment Standards: Education and Experience – Possesses an exceptional skill of which school is in need; collegiate training or experience in which the exceptional skill has been utilized; mest be able to work with children of various ages, maintaining control while providing valuable instructions.
