TUSTIN UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CAMPUS SAFETY PATROL OFFICER Classified Unit Range 42 DEFINITION: The Campus Safety Patrol Office, under the supervision of the Senior Director, Maintenance, Operations and Facilities Construction, patrols assigned school District facilities to ensure safety and security of premises, detect illegal or unauthorized entry or activity, and to report irregularities or questionable activities to police, fire, and/or School District authorities. Nofirearms or weapons are carried or used by Tustin Unified School District employees. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Patrols school campuses or other District facilities, as assigned by school or District administrator, observing security of premises (buildings, grounds, and equipment) to detect any illegal entry, vandalism, arson, or the presence of persons on or about the site without proper authority. • Reports any irregularities or suspicious activity (by telephone or radio communications) to police, fire department, and/or school or District administrators. • Evaluates and reports on security conditions at each facility. • Observes, checks, and reports condition of exterior lighting at school facilities. • Prepares services requests for correction of deficiencies. • May make temporary minor emergency corrections to facilities to restore security. • Prepares and submits reports of intrusion, theft, vandalism, or fire, as required. • May represent the District in dealing with local police and fire departments in security matters. • Perform other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: • Methods and equipment used in security and loss prevention. • Safety procedures and practices relating to security and safety. • Related state and local regulation codes pertaining to security and safety. • Health regulations and safe working methods and procedures. • Proper lifting techniques. • District policies, rules and regulations. Ability to: • Drive District vehicle. • Analyze situations and apply deductive reasoning. • Work independently and apply sound, mature judgment in responding to immediate safety and/or security problems. • Exercise tact, courtesy and restraint when dealing with students, staff and general public. • Determine priorities and establish work schedule. • Maintain records, reports and files, both hard copy files and computer database files. • Make mathematical calculations. • Operate and maintain two-way radio equipment and accessories. • Communicate effectively orally and in writing. • Observe health and safety regulations. • Work cooperatively with others. • Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Education/Training/Required Certification: • High school graduate or equivalent. • Two years of progressively responsible work in the safety and /or security field. • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. • California Penal Code 832.2 Certificate of Training or • Peace Officer Standards in Training (POST) Certificate or • Certificate for Security of School District BP7583.22 (prior to 06/3/99) or BP7583.31 (after 07/01/99) Training. • College level courses or training in police science or related fields desirable. Working conditions may include regular exposure to fumes, dust, odors, cleaning agents and chemicals. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may also occasionally be experienced. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
