INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT - VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Under the direction of a Principal, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students enrolled in a designated vocational education program in a classroom or other learning environment; provide routine clerical support and assist in the preparation of instructional materials.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students enrolled in a designated vocational education program in a classroom or other learning environment; tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.

 

Monitor and oversee student drills, practices and assignments in a designated area of vocational education; assist assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson plans; assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects.

 

Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating and filing instructional materials; grade student tests and assignments as directed; process program forms and applications as required; record student attendance as assigned.

 

Provide classroom support to the teacher by setting up work areas and displays and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials; confer with teachers concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs; report progress regarding student performance.

 

Assist students by answering questions and providing proper examples, friendly attitude and general guidance.

 

Prepare and maintain a variety of records related to student grades, attendance, classroom functions and assigned activities; input student attendance and other data and maintain automated records as required.

 

Communicate with students, District personnel and others to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; answer telephones and provide program and classroom information as assigned.

 

Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment including a copier, fax machine, overhead projector, computer and assigned software.

 

Monitor inventory levels of classroom supplies as directed; assist in ordering receiving and maintaining inventory of classroom supplies.

 

Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner.

Perform duties as it relates to the position.

 

PARENT PROGRAM

Assist teachers in providing child care services for children age infancy to preschool.   Assist individual students in achieving required level of proficiency in course work; provide clerical support to teachers; supervise infants and preschool aged children in the child care center.

Requires a minimum of six college semester units (12 units preferred) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.  Certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.  The reference is 101182 (e) (1) of Title 22, Division 12 (Child Care General Licensing Requirements).  Recertification to maintain current/valid First Aid/CPR/AED status is a condition of employment.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Passage of the PUSD examination for this classification and two years experience working with functions related to assigned vocational education program.  Some specialized knowledge areas have additional education requirements.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

Some positions in this classification may require a valid California driver’s license.
