DSUSD will recommend qualified (non-credentialed) applicants to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for the issuance of an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Permit. Please insert a placeholder that reads "CBEST DEFERRAL" for those who could not take CBEST test between March 1, 2020 and August 1, 2021.

Official Transcripts are only needed if you do not already possess California Teaching Credential and if this is the first time you will be applying for an Emergency 30 Day Substitute Permit.

  • Copy of Transcript (If first time applying for credential, Official transcript in a sealed envelope reflecting the Bachelor Degree is required. DO NOT OPEN sealed envelope. Insert a placeholder stating "I will bring in official transcripts")
  • Credential Copy (Non-credentialed applicants may insert a placeholder stating "I will apply for a 30-day substitute permit via DSUSD")
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (3 Letters of Recommendation)
  • Resume
  • Test Results/Materials (CBEST Test Results - Insert placeholder "CBEST DEFERRAL" for those who were unable to take the exam between March 19 and September 1st. If a candidate already attempted and failed the exam, they are not eligible.)

If a candidate already attempted and failed the exam, they are not eligible for deferral. Medical exam will be required for a person employed for the first time in a California Classroom as a substitute teacher. A medical form will be provided once application is processed. Once your application has been screened. You will be notified via email to come in to pick up an employment packet. Fingerprint Clearance form will be provided in the packet.
