Under the direction of the Principal or Asst. Principal and assigned classroom teacher, assists in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in a classroom or an instructional resource setting; performs various tasks in assisting with the educational needs associated with the particular program to which assigned. Monday through Friday (6.5 hours/day) which includes a thirty (30) minute lunch.

JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Principal or Asst. Principal and assigned classroom teacher, assists in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in a classroom or an instructional resource setting; performs various tasks in assisting with the educational needs associated with the particular program to which assigned. During the regular course of work employees may have access to or gain information regarding privileged information. Privileged information may include student and/or parent information as well as information regarding fellow employees. It is expected that employees of the Lassen Union High School District will not release any privileged information about students, staff, labor relations, or any topic properly confined to a closed session of the Board. QUALIFICATIONS AA Degree, 48 college units, or successful passage of paraprofessional examination is required. Valid California Driver’s license and current first aide and CPR certification. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY Basic child guidance and principles and practices; basic subjects taught in District schools, including, math, grammar, spelling, language, and reading; safe practices in classroom and playground activities; basic computer skills; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; reading, writing, and oral communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy; record keeping techniques; ability to perform clerical duties; print and write legibly; make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately; understand and follow oral and written directions; learn methods and procedures to be followed in an instructional environment; communicate effectively with children and adults; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; work confidentially with discretion; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; conform to and support the assigned teachers type of classroom management; supervisor and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures; operate instructional and office equipment; learn the procedures, functions, and limitations of assigned duties. Use of safety precautions for cleaning bodily fluids. Maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers. Use common courtesy in the course of duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Tutors individuals or small groups of students, reinforces instruction as directed by the teacher; provides support to teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits; operating audio-visual equipment; operating educational training equipment; and distributing and collecting papers and supplies. Observes and controls behavior of students according to approved procedure; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior to teacher; assists teacher in maintaining an attractive and stimulating classroom, in responding to the personal needs of the children. Assists in supervising students in the classroom, on the playground or while on field trips; provides special assistance to students as a result of diagnosed needs in the areas of language, reading and math. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, administrative personnel, and others contacted in the course of work. Provide cross-coverage in other areas as needed during lunch, break, and employee absences. SPECIAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES Valid California Drivers License, CPR and First Aid Certification ADDITIONAL DUTIES Performs a variety of clerical duties such as: preparation of instructional materials, scoring papers, recording grades, taking roll and maintaining records and files; prepares materials for classroom use for students; corrects and records tests and record results on student profiles and other records of student; maintains inventory of books and training aids as assigned. Operates a variety of office equipment including copy machines and typewriters, computers; assures the health and safety of students by following all health and safety rules; assists in the distribution of students meals, as assigned; performs light classroom organizational duties as required. Assists students regarding the building of self-esteem and development of a value system; assists students by providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance; attends in-service training sessions and other meetings; directs group activities with students as assigned; performs other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are the following essential physical requirements. 1.
