Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

Plan and provide instruction, supervise and coordinate the educational porgram, in collaboration with regular education staff for those pupils enrolled in the Special Day Class.

Performance Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with teachers to plan, provide instruction and assess progress for special day class students.
* Consult with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes through planning core curriculum, class schedules, instructional accomodations and modifications and developing solutions.
* Serve as case manager and coordinate special education services with the regular school program for special day class pupils.
* Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through specified Individualized Education Programs (IEP) goals.
* Conduct assessment, both criterion referenced and standardized, as appropriate to the IEP.
* Monitor and report pupil academic and behavioral progress as related to the IEP.
* Develop Individualized Education Programs and provide instruction and services for pupils who are assigned to the special day class.
* Prepare teaching materials and reports(i.e. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress
* Participate in the review and revision of Individualized Education Programs of pupils (e.g. annuals, triennials, transitions).
* Participate in parent conferences, site and district meetings for the purpose of exchange of information
* Direct instructional assistants, volunteers and/or students
* Supervise student activities (e.g. classroom, ground, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
* Develop and implement plans to reinforce acceptable pupil behavior and social skills
* Provide information, materials and assistance to pupils with exceptional needs, their parents, and school staff
* Maintain required records and complete reports for program in a timely manner and/or legally required time period
* Perform other related duties as assigned

Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of teaching methods and instructional stategies appropriate to a variety of disabilities, especially for those students with more intensive needs, academic curriculum standards and benchmarks, relevant education code as applicable to special education, collaboration and co-teaching skills, assessment instruments and their applications.

Abilities:
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, students, parents and commumity, communicate effectively with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, both orally and in writing, possess skills to motivate students, direct support personnel and evaluate performance.

          The Brentwood USD has openings for Special Education Teachers in a Moderate/Severe Special Day Class for Elementary and Middle for the 2021-22 school year. -Receive year for year salary schedule credit for prior experience -Up to 5 days of release time each year for assessments and IEP preparation -Compensation for IEP meetings extending more than 60 minutes beyond the end of the student day -Class size and caseload caps, with remedies for overages -New hire support, mentoring and training program *Applications will be reviewed and screened as received; if selected for interview, tentative interview date is March 9, 2021. *The first student day is Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Work year and salary will be prorated based upon actual days worked.
