Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist in the supervision of students assigned to the in-house suspension program; maintain a structured, organized study area for students who have been referred to the location because of disciplinary action; maintain accurate daily attendance records; carefully monitor academic work performed by students; provide study materials for each student when necessary; enforce school rules and regulations in a fair, firm and equitable manner. Receive assigned students from designated administrators; indoctrinate the students into the rules of operation for the classroom areas. Assure that students have assigned study materials; provide study folders to students who do not have their materials. Maintain a quiet, orderly and organized study area. Maintain records of accomplishments by students assigned to the study location; compile information on the academic performance of each student assigned.

Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by course work in behavioral sciences, human relations or related field equal to 24 semester or equivalent quarter units with an average grade of “C” at an accredited college or university. Two years of demonstrated, successful experience counseling, guiding and supervising students in the age group equivalent to grades 7 through 12 sufficient to allow applicants to a pass a job related written examination is required. One year of internship or practical counseling or guidance experience, or experience working directly with students in an instructional setting in addition to the required two years may be substituted for 12 college units. Knowledge/Abilities: Knowledge of supervision techniques for students with discipline problems; basic instructional techniques for a wide variety of students working at different class levels. The successful candidate will have the ability to understand and tutor in Basic English, grammar, spelling and punctuation; understand and tutor in basic physical and biological sciences. Organize and maintain a classroom atmosphere with minimum behavior problems. Other: A valid California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the District for insurance purposes. Must provide the district with DMV report as proof of an acceptable driving record prior to employment with the district.
