Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

POSITION: Under the direction of certificated personnel, assist in the elementary physical education program. Assist in organizing students into squads or teams; lead warm-up exercises; perform clerical tasks such as recording performance scores or test grades; physically demonstrate skills and activities to students; assist with supervision of physical education activities; confer with teachers regarding students' progress and problems; utilize physical education equipment such as game balls, tape measure and stopwatch. Assist with physical performance testing as directed, and demonstrate skills required for physical fitness testing or game participation as directed.

Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and six months’ experience working with children in a recreational or physical education environment or other educational environment. Knowledge/Abilities: Knowledge of methods and technique of communicating effectively with students; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; basic record keeping techniques. The ability to demonstrate skills required for physical fitness testing or game participation as directed; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; learn the basic methods, procedures and policies of assigned physical education activities, and operate a vehicle to travel to schools sites to conduct work. Licenses/Other: A valid California driver’s license and insurability by the district’s carrier must be maintained at all times. Must provide the district with a DMV report as proof of an acceptable driving record prior to employment with the district. Current CPR and First Aid Certificates must be obtained within six months of employment and maintained at all times for the duration of employment with the district.
