The Governing Board of the Sweetwater Union High School District is seeking a highly qualified Superintendent to lead the district. ABOUT THE DISTRICT: Imagine a school district that wins the San Diego County Academic Decathlon eight years in a row, that guarantees a college education to entire grade levels of children and where students excel in the arts as well as the classroom. At the Sweetwater Union High School District, our students and staff members have accomplished those feats and many more. The Sweetwater Union High School District, California's largest high school district, was founded in 1920, the district has grown to more than 36,000 students in grades 7 through 12 and 10,000 adult learners. The district's 32 campuses are located in the cities of Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City and San Diego, including the communities of Bonita, Eastlake, Otay Mesa, San Ysidro, and South San Diego. California's richness in cultural, linguistic and economic diversity is reflected in Sweetwater's student population, which includes Hispanic, Filipino, African-American, Asian and other ethnicities. Approximately half of Sweetwater's students speak a language other than English at home.   • Experience working with California’s education system and labor relations.

Education and Experience

  • District level administrative experience required
  • Leadership as a site administrator, desired
  • Master degree required
  • Doctorate degree desired
  • Valid California Administrative Services credential, desired

A completed EDJOIN application form is required, and must also include:

  • Personal letter of interest stating reasons for interest in the position of Superintendent
  • Current resume with demonstrated experience leading a district within an ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse community
  • A minimum of four (4) letters of recommendation, that speak to your skills and knowledge relative to this position
  • Response to three (3) supplemental questions

Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred
