THE POSITION The Governing Board of Butte Valley Unified School District invites highly qualified full-time educational leaders to apply for the position of Superintendent/Principal. BUTTE VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT – THE COMMUNITY Butte Valley is a community of around 4,000 and located in Siskiyou County comprised of the City of Dorris, Macdoel, Mt. Hebron, and Tennant, California. Our schools include Butte Valley High School, Butte Valley Elementary, Cascade High School, and Picard Community Day School. The student population is between 275 and 310 students servicing approximate 28 IEP students. The High School has been providing a quality school education to the student of Butte Valley since 1916. The current facilities include two major buildings. The main building contains five standard classrooms, one science lab/classroom, one home economics room/classroom, a counseling office and modernized gymnasium. The auxiliary building contains an agricultural mechanic’s shop, a wood shop, pottery room and cafeteria-scale kitchen. Eight full-time and one part-time teachers are on staff. Butte Valley Elementary is the districts K-8 school. All K-8 students are located in the elementary school building. The school is on the same campus as the Butte Valley High School. The students have their own gym, and playground area separate from the high school. The cafeteria and library are shared by all students. Butte Valley Elementary grades are divided in ten classrooms. Grades K-8 operate as an elementary school with self-contained classrooms. Nine full time teachers are on staff. Cascade Continuation High School is the only continuation high school in the Butte Valley Unified School District. Picard Community Day School serves expelled/at-risk youth in grades K-8. The District Office includes two administrative staff. The District has a total of 16-18 Non-Certificated staff employees.

The Butte Valley Unified School District seeks a superintendent/principal who: o is a leader and will help develop and mentor our staff. o has a high level of leadership experience. o has knowledge of the education code. o is goal-oriented, growth oriented and values the ideas of others. o has experience in diverse and economically challenged communities. o is a strong leader who can unite and bring community members and staff together to support our schools. o has the ability to select and manage staff that ensures outstanding performance and good moral. o is an effective communicator. o has experience and knowledge with the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and with development of the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) to help ensure long-term fiscal stability of the District. o is honest, trustworthy, compassionate and has respect for others. o can collaborate and communicate with the Governing Board on policies and educational standards. DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED) o Masters degree or higher o California Administrative Services Credential o An educator with K-12 experience in California o Strong fiscal background and understanding of budget o Previous administrative or supervisory experience SALARY & BENEFITS o Salary Range: Starting at $110,000 and $115,000 – negotiable depending on experience o Work Year: 224 days o Benefits: Family, health, dental and vision insurance o Contract: Multi-year contract negotiable o Expected Date of Employment: July 1, 2021
