Sacramento City Unified School District, a large and diverse school district serving approximately 42,000 students and 77 schools, seeks a forward-thinking and innovative Communications Manager to help lead a fast-paced communications department reaching students, families, employees and stakeholders throughout the Sacramento region. The position would work collaboratively with the Chief of Communications and district leadership to advance the district’s vision of equity, access and social justice. The Communications Manager should be a seasoned storyteller and writer with the ability to provide stakeholders and media with information about ongoing efforts to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of all students. The ideal candidate will have experience in both internal and external communication strategies, as well as developing social media content, video, and marketing campaigns. The candidate should be comfortable and familiar working with the media and serving as spokesperson when necessary. The SCUSD guiding principle is that “All students are given an equal opportunity to graduate, with the greatest number of post-secondary choices from the widest array of options.” The district seeks candidates who are passionate about education and public service. The Communications Manager will have a direct and public role in helping the district meet its vision and guiding principle, and as a result will be well-positioned to positively impact Sac City students and families.

TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field, and minimum five years’ experience in public relations management, public information, or public affairs, including extensive experience writing and editing the work of others. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license; provide personal automobile and proof of insurance.
