The Southern Humboldt Joint Unified School District crosses two counties, Mendocino and Humboldt, in the heart of the redwoods, extending from remote, mountain areas, to the Eel and Mattole River valleys, to Kings Range and out to the Lost Coast of the Pacific Ocean. The school district encompasses an area of approximately 773 square miles. The Southern Humboldt Joint Unified School District unified in 1948, combining nineteen separate school districts. Required credential: California Multiple Subject, Single Subject, Education Specialist Instruction, Pupil Personnel Services, or 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit.
