Catholic elementary school seeks a passionate, engaging music teacher.  We value music highly in both our church services and our classrooms. Candidates must be comfortable planning music for mass from Catholic liturgy, preparing the entire school for the annual Christmas pageant, teach piano lessons as well as preparing a piano recital for students K - 8th.

 Catholic elementary school seeks a passionate, engaging music teacher.  We value music highly in both our church services and our classrooms. Candidates must be comfortable planning music for mass from Catholic liturgy, preparing the entire school for the annual Christmas pageant, and planning the piano recital. (There are pianos for each student K-8th and students know how to play notes)

We are proud of our general music program, mass choir, and pageant, and hope to find a leader who is willing to embrace our unique school and inspire our students through music.

 

Job Description: 

• Teach the elements of music via the content standards as set forth by the Diocese of San Diego and the California State Standards including the following elements: 


1. Artistic Perception- Teach students to read, write, listen to and describe music 

2. Creative Expression- Teach students to sing a repertoire of vocal literature representing various genres, styles, and cultures with expression, good posture, and tone quality 

3. Historical and Cultural Context- Teach students to understand and analyze the historical and cultural roots of music 

4. Musical Appreciation- Aid students to derive meaning and respond to various works of music

and teach piano lessons 

• Lead and direct school choir 

• Prepare students for school liturgies

• Plan, coordinate, practice and conduct musical performances such as Christmas Pageant, May Crowning, spring talent show or any other musical event in which students are expected to perform as representatives of the school 

• Create lesson plans for various grade levels according to developmental ability 

• Provide formative and summative assessment for concepts taught • Communicate effectively with parents 

• Practice effective classroom management 
 

Basic Qualifications: 

• Strong musical background 

• Knowledge of sacred and secular music 

• Ability to communicate musical concepts and instruction with effectiveness • Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument 

• Singing voice appropriate for teaching choir
