Must possess: A valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential or be able to obtain the credential before the job starts; Certification issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing authorizing primary language instruction in Mandarin (or be in the process of obtaining it) Complete an employment application with required supporting documentation

Applicants must be fluent in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English and Mandarin Chinese. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides standards-based instruction in Mandarin in the content areas. Provides inquiry-based instruction in accordance with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program Provides a stimulating language-learning environment in Mandarin with sufficient support for language learners to access the core curriculum Instructs students in communication skills with an emphasis on comprehensible input Promotes parent involvement and participation in the education of their children Develops lesson plans that adapt the instruction to the language abilities and learning needs of each pupil Evaluates pupil growth in language development, content area knowledge, and observable social growth as measured by a variety of assessments Keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents on individual pupil progress. With the assistance of available professional staff, it identifies pupil needs and works toward fulfilling those needs. Establishes procedures and techniques for maintaining proper control to enhance learning. Performs reasonable non-teaching duties as assigned Participates in curriculum and program development within the school of assignment and at the District level May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals. Maintains professional competence through participation in professional growth activities. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies in the appropriate languages
