The San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) is located in the heart of Southern California’s Inland Empire. The District serves the City of San Bernardino, a portion of the City of Highland and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Devore. SBCUSD is the tenth largest school district in California with a student enrollment of over 49,000 students in grades K-12. The district is comprised of 50 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, 9 high schools, an adult school and 2 special education sites. The district also provides oversight for thirteen (13) district-approved charter schools. The Board of Education and the District are committed to preparing students for future academic, professional, career and life success. The Board of Education, Superintendent, administrators, classified and certificated staff collaboratively developed a strategic plan (known as our Community Engagement Plan) and share a common vision of providing outstanding learning experiences while recognizing the unique qualities of each student. The District offers some of the finest educational programs in the County. The district is proud that sixteen (16) schools have earned California Distinguished School Awards, several multiple times. Two schools, Richardson Prep HI and Middle College High School, have been designated as National Blue Ribbon Schools. Pacific High School is also a nationally recognized AVID school, one among only 120 high schools in the nation. The district has earned seven (7) Golden Bell awards for exemplary programs from the California School Boards Association and national recognition of its outstanding elementary environmental education program and its energy efficiency program. The District has been deeply involved over the last few years in the development of career pathways and opportunities for students to learn about and experience the world of work. The city of San Bernardino is an active and involved community and is proud of its schools. The city has a wide variety of recreational attractions, including mountains, skiing, desert, beaches, resorts and world class cultural and sporting events within a 30- to 60- mile range. While the population is over 200,000 residents, there is a small town atmosphere. The strength of the community is in the diverse mix of people who live in San Bernardino. San Bernardino offers excellent access to higher education including California State University at San Bernardino, the University of Redlands and San Bernardino Valley College.
