BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Director-Transportation, perform journey-level repair, maintenance and servicing to school buses and other vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment; train and provide work direction to assigned staff. All communication from PVUSD regarding the status of your application, test scheduling, test results, etc. will be sent via email. Individuals interested in employment are asked to describe any training, education, experience, or skills relevant to this position. Selection Procedure: The process will begin with the competitive screening of qualified applicants. Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a written, oral, and/or practical examination process. Successful candidates will be ranked on an eligibility list according to the examination score. Final selection will then be made in accordance with Merit System rules from the established eligibility list. Fingerprinting and criminal record checks will be done on all prospective employees.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Advanced operating principles of diesel, gasoline-powered internal combustion engines. Methods, tools, equipment and materials used in journey-level repair and maintenance of automotive equipment. Engine rebuilding and machine shop skills, including methods, materials, tools and equipment. State motor vehicle regulations. Shop math applicable to vehicle maintenance. Operation of a variety of technology devices including but not limited to a computer and assigned software. Proper lifting techniques. Health and safety regulations and procedures. Principles of training and providing work direction. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Oral and written communication skills. ABILITY TO: Diagnose and perform journey-level repair, maintenance and servicing to school buses and other automotive and grounds maintenance equipment. Perform journey-level repair of mechanical and electrical malfunctions and defects. Operate shop equipment and tools including ARC and gas welding equipment, jacks and power tools. Read, interpret, explain and apply mechanical diagrams, repair manuals and parts catalogues. Perform major repairs to automotive vehicles. Maintain records related to assigned activities. Plan and organize work. Estimate labor and cost of materials for repairs as needed. Operate of a variety of technology devices including but not limited to a computer and assigned software. Understand and follow oral and written directions. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and four years’ journey-level experience in diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Class B driver's license with air brake endorsement.

Employment with the Pajaro Valley Unified School District is not complete or official until applicants meet all pre-employment requirements, including Board of Trustee approval. As part of the selection process, all new employees are required to provide the following information: new employees must be fingerprinted (paid by the District); TB test (paid by the employee); social security card; picture identification; and authorization to work (I-9) for Payroll purposes.
PAY DAYS: Permanent employees are paid on the last working day of each month.
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:
All regular employees who work a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week are entitled to the following fringe benefits (effective on the first of the month following employment).
