The mission of NSLA is to ensure learning for a diverse and often underserved population of students who will be college and career ready as a result of our safe and rigorous bilingual, bi-literate, and multicultural education. NSLA is an independent, direct-funded public transitional kindergarten through 8th grade countywide benefit charter school that serves approximately 800 students within San Bernardino County. NSLA is currently planning for expansion to high school. A brand new TK-12 campus will be constructed to meet the needs of approximately 1,450 students with a projected opening in Fall 2021. NSLA’s first charter was authorized by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (“SBCSS”) in 2008 and was renewed in 2016. The goal of NSLA and all stakeholders is to expand into grades 9-12 within the next five years. NSLA is a dynamic charter school that focuses on science instruction and high academic rigor in a school wide Spanish/English dual language immersion setting (90/10 model). NSLA believes that graduates in the 21st century need to have both scientific and multilingual skills in order to lead our global community. NSLA focuses daily on science instruction, including consistent opportunities to develop rich knowledge and skills across a broad range of scientific disciplines. NSLA’s focus on science instruction within a strong dual immersion setting, coupled with its enrichment arts programs, reflects its steadfast commitment to nurturing truly bilingual, multicultural graduates with a powerful foundation in scientific thinking and experiences. NSLA’s curriculum is based on California State Content Standards and complies with state mandated requirements for assessment. NSLA relies heavily on the complete commitment of each parent to participate fully in his or her child's education. In 2012-13, NSLA received its first WASC accreditation.
