LAWNDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES Special Day Class Teacher- Mild to Moderate ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS The Special Day Class Teacher-Mild to Moderate is a certificated position directly responsible to the site administrator(s). Evaluation is the responsibility of the site principal with consideration given to observations performed by the Director of Pupil Services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Special Day Class Teacher-Mild to Moderate is responsible for the following: • Providing instruction and services for pupils whose needs were identified by an individualized education program team, and who are assigned to the Special Day Class for the majority of the school day. E • Conferencing with and providing information and assistance to individuals with exceptional needs and their parents. E • Providing consultation, resource information, and material regarding individuals with exceptional needs to their parents and to regular staff members. E • Developing and implementing a behavior management plan in accordance with district guidelines and established practice. E • Assisting in assessment of Special Education Students. E • Coordinating all special education and regular program (integrated) services provided each pupil in the Special Day Class. E • Monitoring pupil progress on a regular basis, participating in the review and revision of individualized education programs, as appropriate, and referring pupils who do not demonstrate appropriate progress to the individualized education program Team. E • With the assistance of the site administration, integrating students served in the Special Day Class into regular program classes as appropriate, facilitating earliest practicable transfer to other Special Education programs and other regular programs. E • Participating in in-service training designed to improve competencies with regard to techniques of instruction, curriculum, materials, and methods of evaluating pupil progress, as well as maintaining current information and understanding of federal, state, and local regulations regarding Special Education. E • Supervising Instructional Assistants-Special Education, Mild to Moderate program. E • Understand the District's core curriculum and use of an integrated English/Language Arts program. • Perform related duties as assigned. The Special Day Class Teacher-Mild to Moderate Program functions as a member of the school site staff, attending staff meetings, participating in committee work and school events as practicable, and assuming responsibility as a staff member with regard to assigned duties. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Elementary Teaching Credential; valid Special Education Mild to Moderate credential or other California credential authorizing service in a Special Day Class Mild to Moderate. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Special education classroom environment; subject to considerable distraction of office activities. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Sitting or standing for extended periods of time, bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching, hearing and speaking to exchange information and provide instructions, and seeing to read and prepare reports and monitor classroom activities.
