Job Summary

The job of the Chief of District Business & Advisory Services is done for the purpose/s of directing, supervising, and coordinating the external business operations of the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE), including AB1200 monitoring and reporting requirements for all County school districts and charter schools providing leadership and assistance to the Chief Business Officials of the school districts served by the County Superintendent; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and training, supervising, and evaluating assigned personnel. This classification reports to the Assigned Administrator.

TYPICAL DUTIES: • Directs and implements activities and operations related to the external business services department for the purpose of overseeing and advising school district business operations and the integration of the financial system; confers with district staff for the purpose of identifying and resolving issues. • Interprets and applies federal, state and county statues, laws, codes, etc. for the purpose of assuring compliance with all regulations and legal requirements; responsible for AB1200 monitoring and reporting requirements for all County school districts. • Participates in a wide variety of meetings, workshops and seminars that frequently involve a range of issues for the purpose of serving on statewide committees on behalf of county operations and AB1200 and meeting on matters related to the school districts in the county. Presents to the ACOE cabinet, CBOs and Fiscal Directors county-wide, governing boards county- wide and school district end-users for the purpose of conveying information on financial issues related to the districts in the county and enhancing the business operations of the districts. • Provides training/supervision to the staff in the external business services unit for the purpose of evaluating staff and programs on a timely basis and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and adequate internal controls.

QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience: Seven (7) years job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. • Education: Bachelor’s degree in job-related area. • Equivalency: Ten (10) years related experience, including five (5) years at a management level in the business department of a school district or county office of education..
