Job Description

The Special Education Instructional Assistant assists and supports the Education Specialist with educational and instructional activities, data collection, organization, and clerical work.

Duties may include:

• Supporting students and general education teachers in the general education classroom in an inclusive model.

• Working with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff (Education Specialist or general education teacher).

• Performing clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the Education Specialist.

• Alerting the Education Specialist to any problem or new information about an individual student.

• Being familiar with IEPs, specifically student goals and accommodations

• Supporting and monitoring behavior intervention plans and/or incentive plans designed by Education Specialist/IEP Team.

• Collecting data using data sheets, anecdotal notes, and/or specific informal assessments.

• Demonstrating ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.

• Participating in training programs as appropriate.

• Collaborating with co-workers to ensure student needs are met at all times.

• Assisting with student toileting

REQUIREMENTS:

• Positive attitude and ability to work constructively with others

• Experience working with elementary school-aged children

• Previous experience as a Special Education Instructional Assistant (or working in a  related field with children with disabilities)

• Physically able to stand for an extended time, walk moderate distances, achieve full range of motion in back, shoulders, wrists, knees with no pain, sit in classroom chairs, and kneel or sit on floor throughout the course of the day.  

• Basic computer knowledge

• Experience with Google Docs/Drive

• Bilingual Spanish or German a plus
