King City Joint Union High School District Certificated Personnel Job Description: PRINCIPAL (High School) General Functions: 1. Assume primary and direct responsibility for the operation and administration ofall school functions. 2. Evaluates the instructional program and initiates strategies for improvement or change. --------------------------- Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Be responsible for all curriculum development at the high school. 2. Be responsible for the total educational program (curricular, co-curricular at the high school, including summer school). 3. To see that the course of study as adopted by the board ofeducation is carried out within hislher school. 4. Provides leadership to the staff and advisory councils in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long and short range plans for the school. 5. Interprets and implements the district approved curriculum program in the light ofindividualschool needs. 6. Enlists the assistance ofthe school resource personnel in the improvements of the program ofthe school. 7. Establishes an effective school administrative organization with clean lines ofresponsibility and with the necessary delegation of authority. 8. Identifies, provides, assigns and coordinates inservice growth opportunities for teaching personnel within the school. 9. Supervises and evaluates the performance of all assigned personnel in accordance with the district's adopted uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessment. Recommends appropriate action in cases ofsubstandard performance. 10. Assigns within district policy all students in such a way as to encourage their optimum growth. 11. Makes periodic appraisals ofpupil progress. 12. Develops school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline and conduct of students as established in district procedures. 13. Plans, coordinates and evaluates the total program ofpupil services including guidance and counseling. 14. Plans, supervises, and directs the business operation ofthe school in accordance with district policies and procedures. 15. Responsible for overseeing all site budgets. 16. Makes plans for the most effective use ofcurriculum materials, instructional supplies, equipment, building facilities, and school grounds. 17. Carries out a program ofcommunity relations as a means of interpreting and furthering school programs through parent and community organizations. 18. Serves as a district officer in communication between central administration and teachers and classified employees in the schools, and interprets and implements district policies in individual schools. 19. Plans, coordinates and reviews the work ofresource teachers and instructional consultants assigned to assist teachers in the instructional program. 20. Carries on a human relations program in order to maintain high morale ofthe school staffand provides an open and honest atmosphere of communications. 21. Devotes time to educational supervision and the improvement ofinstruction, including direct classroom observation and conferencing with certificated personnel. 22. Serve, at the discretion ofthe Superintendent, on district projects and committees. 23. Represent district at all IEP meetings for Special Education students. 24. Ensure that students (including Special Education students) are appropriately placed. 25. Optimize all available resources to best serve students needs. 26. Other duties, as assigned. --------------------------- Organizational Relationships 1. Directly responsible to the Superintendent. 2. Works cooperatively with all other departments and divisions in routine matters designed to ensure efficient operation ofthe schools. 3. Performs a liaison role with other principals in the district. 4.
