The teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. Work Year: 182 days. Hours per day vary depending on student load. Representative Duties: Duties may consist of any combination of the essential functions listed below. Definition: Under the direction of the Director, perform a broad range of functions in the delivery and support of the educational and assessment programs to our IS/HS students.
Work schedule: 175 days. Hours per day vary depending on student load (part-time position only).
In general, the Supervising Teacher (ST) is responsible for and must exhibit the following skills:
The role of the ST:
Each IS/HS family and student is assigned a Supervising Teacher (ST). An ST must meet face-to-face with each student and/or parent at least once every 20 school attendance days (or less) plus complete all administrative duties for that student and required auditable paperwork.
The ST supports the family with their educational goals and provides curriculum help as needed. The ST is familiar and supports the mission and the vision of our school and is familiar with passion-driven learning.
Knowledge of Curriculum and Learning:
A broad base of educational knowledge as well as a thorough understanding of educational opportunities available through the school is necessary. The ST assists the parent in assessing each student’s educational needs, abilities, interests, passions, motivation, learning style and demonstrated achievement to implement an appropriate personalized educational program. The ST must be familiar with the numerous curricular options and educational resources available, and being conversant in these approaches as needed to educate and inform the parents and students and help secure curriculum and other educational materials necessary for each student. The ST collects and reviews student’s work samples and assembles student work portfolios. The ST supports the student and family and guides them to meet the common core standards.
Computer Technology:
To perform this job successfully, the employee must be familiar with or willing to acquire the knowledge of the software necessary to complete the ST duties. The employee should have above average knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software and email, database, and Internet experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ST must exhibit the following: the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a professional and courteous manner; strong organizational skills with attention for detail; the ability to work as a team player; the ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment with minimal supervision and must be flexible. The employee will also be expected to teach some workshops/classes on campus and tutor for some hours as a part of his/her job.
Experience and Education:
Training or experience that clearly demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities detailed above, is required. As well, familiarity with independent study charter programs, in general, and be familiar with the school's mission and vision. Ideally, the applicant is familiar with independent study.
