Title: Recreational Leader
Reports To: Administrative Assistant

Salary: 5 Step Range               Classification: Classified

FLSA: Non-Exempt (hourly)
Work Year: School Term - 195 Work Days

Board Ratified: 12-10-09


BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Administrative Assistant of the Educational Options Department, Recreational Leaders assist in providing care for children enrolled in the After School Education and Safety Programs.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

• With the guidance of the Administrative Assistant, Recreational Leaders coordinate and manage the day to day activities and services of assigned program. Maintain effective communication with and provide input to the Administrative Assistant, including regular written updates on program operations.
• Provide information to school and district personnel as needed. Develop methods to actively recruit and retain students for program services. Maintain a high level of customer services by modeling standards of expected service for program clientele and the community.
• Monitor the efficient use of program resources, including the ordering of supplies, and assist in the creation of materials to facilitate program activities.
• Assist in implementing school rules and procedures while following Educational Options Rules and Expectations for all Children and model appropriate behavior for the students.
• Report and accurately document program participant complaints and handle issues of student discipline as they arise. Insure incidents of a serious nature are reported to the proper site/district administration or legal authorities.
• Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
• Administer first aid as needed.
• Responsible to maintaining onsite security and safety of all students.
• Performs and completes other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge and Application of: District policies and procedures; computer hardware and software programs and other office equipment; modern office practices, procedures and record-keeping; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; interpersonal skills; and, principles of customer service.

Ability to:

• Work and deal effectively with people of all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
• Understand, implement, and give complex oral and written directions; maintain cooperative and professional relationships with those contacted and supervised in the course of work.
• Compose clear, complete, concise correspondence and reports independently using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling.
• Ability to plan, organize, and set up daily activities, special events, field trips, and/or other related events as assigned.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education: High School Diploma

Experience: Experience with children in an instructional and/or supervisory capacity, preferably in a school setting. Current training in CPR and first aid will be required.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license and maintain the minimum state vehicle insurance.

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works inside and is required to drive his/her POV from site to site on a regular basis. The employee works in an office and/or classroom setting and often in a school environment setting with students and staff.
