Position: Fifth & Sixth Grade Teacher (0.5-1.0 FTE, depending on enrollment) Who: Chrysalis Charter School, Palo Cedro, CA Employment Type: 0.5 - 1.0 FTE depending on enrollment Salary: $51,885.28+ (for 1.0 FTE) depending on experience according to the Chrysalis teacher salary schedule Chrysalis is seeking a fifth and sixth grade teacher who is warm, inspirational, passionate, and team-oriented. Who We Are Chrysalis Charter School is unique in many ways - from our mission (“encouraging the light within each student to shine brighter”) through our science and nature emphasis to our organization as a teacher powered school. The teachers are in charge of the school and have the freedom to collaboratively design and implement whatever the group can imagine. This attracts creative, passionate teachers and creates a special atmosphere that can be felt as soon as you walk onto our campus. For example, the teachers have chosen to have smaller class sizes and more aides than most schools. This means modest salaries for all of us but also a child-centered focus that creates many non-tangible benefits such as inclusion within a strong community of families and staff. Learn more about us at http://www.chrysalischarterschool.com/ What You Will Do As a Chrysalis teacher, you will be responsible for crafting the educational program for up to 28 students in fifth and/or sixth grade with the support of an amazing team of colleagues and office staff. You would focus on math and science while your partner teacher would focus on language arts and history. You would serve as the homeroom teacher for the fifth graders and coordinate non-core subjects including PE, art, electives, and enhancements. Specific duties include: • Embodying the mission of the school in everything you do • Creating the environment necessary for every child in your room to develop deep conceptual understanding in all academic subjects • Empowering students to alter the course of learning that happens in the classroom through responsive teaching • Cultivating a kind environment by earning the trust and respect of each student; actively teaching social skills; and immediately addressing behavior concerns that impact students’ emotional and social well-being • Strengthening the Chrysalis community by developing close and caring relationships with students, parents, teachers, and staff • Embracing the science and nature focus of the school through crafting opportunities for students to actively investigate their world during daily science classes, weekly field studies, and bi-annual all-school camping trips • Sharing your passions, skills, and interests with students throughout your curriculum and during weekly elective classes • Assuming a reasonable share of the work for all-school events and projects such as the talent show, yearbook, camping trips, holiday program, graduation, and more Finally, you would become part of a nationally-prominent, teacher-powered school and would share in the many responsibilities and joys of making Chrysalis a special place. You and your fellow teachers set the budget, hire colleagues, plan the future, and more. Yes, this means extra time spent in meetings and more thought given to decisions that affect the school. On the other hand, it’s YOUR school. YOU have the power to change what isn’t working for you and your students. What You Bring We are looking for an amazing person who is inspired by our mission and can become an integral part of our community. You will be right at home here if you are truly passionate about encouraging students’ lights to shine; can craft a quality educational program that teaches for understanding with a strong science and nature focus; love learning; can utilize your exceptional communication skills to cultivate collaborative relationships with families and staff; will speak up within the teacher’s co-op to advocate for the needs of your students; and can stay flexible. A strong understanding of outdoor or environmental science education is a heavily valued plus in order to stay true to our identity as a science and nature school. If you love the outdoors, are endlessly curious about the natural world, and enjoy camping, then you will be right at home -- but we are quite willing to train the right person. Familiarity the Chrysalis model of education is also a heavily valued plus. We are a unique school so knowing who we are and how we operate allows a candidate to hit the ground running though we have and can train a teacher that is new to Chrysalis. The minimum requirements are a valid California Multiple Subject Credential, EL authorization, and ESSA compliance. Three or more years of teaching experience is desired, though we are happy to train and mentor new teachers. Vision sufficient to read fine print; hearing and speech sufficient to enable communication by telephone and in person; stamina sufficient to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time; regularly lift, carry, and/or move instructional material and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; reach with arms and hands; stoop, kneel, or crouch to work with children. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions, though you must pass a TB test, background check, and physical assessment exam. What We Offer We offer a warm, close-knit community with a salary approaching that of other schools in our area. You would enjoy generous holidays following the school calendar. You would receive CALSTRS retirement benefits and would be eligible to participate in the medical, dental and vision plans available via Blue Shield, Delta Dental, and VSP, and may elect to increase your level of coverage and/or add a spouse and/or dependents at the current published rates. We also strive to offer a family-friendly environment. The children of staff are given priority in the enrollment lottery, and we encourage employees with children that attend Chrysalis to actively participate in school activities and in their child’s classroom. To Apply Send a cover letter, resume, the names and contact information for 3 references, copy of credential, EL authorization and proof of ESSA (prior NCLB) Compliance to Irene Salter at irene@chrysalischarter.org (digital submission only) as soon as possible. We are accepting and reviewing applications on a rolling basis and hope to fill the position as soon as possible.
