The Grass Valley Elementary School District, Grass Valley, California Board of Trustees, is seeking a highly qualified and fully certified Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position on or before July 1, 2020.
Requirements / Qualifications
Credential Requirements: • Minimum 3 years teaching experience • Administrative experience in public schools at the principal level or higher, preferably for a minimum of 3 years
The Qualifications The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Board developed the following desired characteristics. • An effective communicator who is visible and approachable, as well as being friendly, compassionate, sensitive and caring. • A visionary and innovative leader with the ability to effectively interact with all district stakeholders in order to continue to move and improve educational initiatives in a diverse school district. A person who will implement a vision and best educational practices in the context of state and federal educational reforms such as the Common Core State Standards, LCFF/LCAP planning, 21st Century skills, and Smarter Balanced Assessments. A person with knowledge of California programs, funding, and education code. • A collaborator who brings people together building positive relationships with the Board, administration, staff, and community. A person who is a good listener, open and accessible to all, engaging diverse communities and those with differing opinions. A person with a commitment to working with students, employees, parents and community members from diverse ethnic, racial, gender, and socio-economic backgrounds. A leader who is able to communicate effectively, motivate and involve a progressive school system, and is a highly visible and vested part of our schools and community. A person who is an influential problem solver in the arenas of interest-based bargaining and proposed or current state/federal legislation. • An ethical leader who models high expectations for self, staff, and students and possesses the personal characteristics of honesty, dependability, humor, loyalty, and has a strong work ethic.
