Principal
General Description:
Under the supervision and direction of the superintendent, the principal is to assume primary and direct responsibility for the operation and administration of all functions of the school, including fiscal management, employee performance and evaluation, instructional leadership, curriculum implementation, scheduling, student welfare, and community relations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as the instructional leader of the school.
- Leads staff in the selection of standards-based curriculum and the implementation of engaging rigorous instructional programs and activities designed to meet the needs of students and established school and district goals.
- Conducts performance evaluations of staff to ensure that site goals and objectives are achieved, and that staff adheres to site, district, state and national education standards and goals.
- Leads staff to plan, develop, organize and monitor effective, researched-based intervention and enrichment programs, both in-class and out of class, that are timely and targeted to student needs.
- Works closely with school and district staff, parents, students and community members to frequently assess the school’s educational programs and faculty needs, and develops short and long term planning strategies for creating an optimal educational program.
- Provides staff development and training programs to improve student learning.
- Manages the school administrative functions (e.g. budget, staffing, etc.) for the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff.
- Works cooperatively with all other sites, departments and administration for the purpose of maintaining alignment, communication, and coordination of resources.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with parents, community members, outside agency personnel and other interested school stakeholders for the purpose of developing positive interactions.
- Coordinates and provides direction/supervision for the school’s co-curricular and extracurricular activities which include but are not limited to: student activities, athletics, school publications, fund raising, assemblies and student organizations for the purpose of maintaining quality student interactions.
- Works collaboratively with the director of maintenance, operations and transportation to insure clean, safe and well-maintained facilities and grounds.
- Performs any other related duties as directed by the superintendent.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to see for purposes of reading policies and printed material.
- Ability to understand speech at normal levels in person or on the telephone. Ability to communicate so others will be able to understand a normal conversation in person or on the telephone.
- Ability to operate necessary equipment including computers and computer software with dexterity.
- Ability to drive a vehicle to conduct work.
- Ability to occasionally lift/carry supplies, materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to demonstrate mental acuity in the performance of job related duties and interactions with students and adults.
Working Conditions:
- Public school work environment subject to sitting at a desk or standing for long periods of time, bending and crouching, kneeling at files, pushing/pulling file drawers, equipment and supplies, reaching in all directions and working at a computer or other standard school equipment.

Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university is desired.
- California Administrative Services Credential.
- Five (5) or more years effective teaching experience.
- Demonstrated experience with school leadership activities that provide the required knowledge, skills and experience.
Days: 206 per year. Holidays and sick leave as required by Education Code

Comments and Other Information
The District offers health benefits for both employee and family. There are five plans that the employee can choose from. Each plan offers a different level of coverage and cost. The negotiated settlement that the District pays for the annual cap for health benefits for certificated staff is $14,500.00. If an employee chooses a plan in which the cost is lower than the annual cap, the employee will receive the difference in pay.
Medical plans range from low deductible PPO plans to high deductible plans. Composite rate to cover your family members and/or registered domestic partners. Dental plans are on an incentive tier (Plan pays coinsurance at 70% for the first year and increases by 10% each year that the member vists the dentist, to a maximum of 100%). Dental plans have an unlimited annual plan maximum dollar amount. Vision coverage co-pays are $5 per exam and $25/materials. Members may get an exam every 12 months and materials every 24 months. Employees have a $20,000 life insurance policy, with an option to increase the policy amount and add coverage for family members. The District contributes 17.10% for participation in the State Teachers Retirement System.
