About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. CLASS TITLE: BUS DRIVER ASSISTANT BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Manager-Transportation, maintain order and discipline among students the bus; assist in assuring safe transportation of students. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Maintain order and discipline among students on the bus in accordance with District policies related to disciplining students; report behavior issues to appropriate personnel; assure student understanding of bus rules. Assist in assuring safe transportation of students; assist with the loading and unloading of students; secure seat belts and harnesses; monitor student activities and assure compliance with bus safety procedures. Communicate with personnel, students and parents concerning student needs, issues and concerns. Clean up after students as needed; clean bus interior and exterior as needed; sweep floor and wash windows. Maintain routine records related to assigned activities; prepare student discipline reports. Prevent or break up student conflicts and fights as directed. OTHER DUTIES: Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Proper methods of group supervision. Safe practices concerning school bus transportation. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Health and safety regulations. Oral and written communication skills. Basic record-keeping techniques. ABILITY TO: Maintain order and discipline among bus students the bus. Assist in assuring safe transportation of students. Learn and apply District policies and procedures related to student discipline. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Monitor, observe and control student behavior according to approved policies and procedures. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Observe health and safety regulations. Maintain routine records related to work performed. Lift heavy children or objects as assigned by the position. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: School bus environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate safety devices. Sitting for extended periods of time. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Seeing to monitor students and read a variety of materials. HAZARDS: Riding in a vehicle during adverse weather conditions.

This physical strength test helps us select employee candidates that have demonstrated a minimum level of strength to perform the essential functions of the job. EXAMINATIONS: A written exam (weighted 40% of total) and an oral interview (weighted 60% of total) will be conducted. A passing score must be achieved on each portion of the exams. The written exam is expected to be held on Monday, April 27, 2020 and the oral panel is to be determined. Final selection will be made from those who achieve the three highest ranking scores.
