Program Description: Affiliated with Chamberlain’s Youth Services, Keith Thompson Non-public School (KTNPS) is a private, nonsectarian school certified by the state of California. The purpose of a non-public school is to provide special education services to students based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Students enrolled are struggling academically, behaviorally, and socially. They are referred by their school district of residence because an IEP team has determined they have not received education benefit from their previous school placement.

Job Summary
Scope: The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specialized academic services directly to the students enrolled at Keith Thompson Non Public School (KTNPS) as well as collaborating with County Office of Education (SBCOE), various school districts, and parents/guardians and the IEP team regarding the implementation of the Individual Education Plan. The teacher will deliver effective academic instruction in line with KTNPS approved academic curriculum, state standards and student IEPs designed to help all students fulfill their capabilities for mental, physical and social growth. Works in conjunction with Chamberlain’s Youth Services’ mental health team and various school professionals; the teacher also assesses students' needs; develops, implements, evaluates and adjusts individual and group instruction; uses teaching techniques, methods and procedures to stimulate their individual interests and abilities; implements behavior and treatment plans developed by the multidisciplinary team; maintains confidentiality.

Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university.
- California credential authorizing performance of service for programs for students mild to moderate disabilities with appropriate certification for teaching English Language Learners; preference will be given to individuals with classroom experience in working directly with emotionally disturbed students.
- Or California credential authorizing performance in multiple K-12 setting with ability to enroll in an approved Intern credential program authorizing performance of service program for students with mild to moderate disabilities.
- Or the ability to enroll in an approved Intern credential program (e.g. CSUMB) authorizing performance of service program for students with mild to moderate disabilities.
- Experience with regular education programs, preschool, elementary or secondary settings preferred.
- Knowledge of specialized techniques or skills in social, emotional and behavioral areas and classroom behavior.
- First Aid and CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Possess an appropriate California operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and be insurable.
