JOB DESCRIPTION

SCHOOL NURSE (RN)



DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Director of Special Services, provides services to those students with specific medical needs.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Consult with staff, parents and other providers serving students with specific medical needs.

• Act as a liaison between families, students with medical needs, district staff and community health services providers.

• Assess students and interview parents for the development of specialized health care plans, 504 plans and IEPS as appropriate.

• Attend 504, IEP and other student meetings as needed.

• Train and supervise designated personnel in medically ordered specialized health care procedures.

• Act as a consultant to staff in the area of communicable diseases.

• Provide consultation as needed for mandated health screening.

• Provide consultation/training as needed for procedures related to first aide and the storing and administration of medications at school.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid California Services Credential with authorization in school nursing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• Work year is 189 days for new staff, 186 days for returning staff.
• Salary per certificated salary schedule.
• TB clearance and Fingerprint clearance required as a condition of employment.
