Santa Rosa City Schools INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT I BASIC FUNCTION: Under supervision, serve as an assistant to certificated personnel in the instruction and supervision of students at the elementary, secondary or adult school levels; and relieve the teacher, or other certificated supervisor, of clerical detail. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Assist teachers in conducting lessons and other classroom activities. 2. Work with students in small groups, or on a one-to-one basis to reinforce basic skills or to supplement classroom work. 3. Prepare for, and assist with various classroom projects. 4. Operate audio-visual equipment. 5. Assist in the preparation of graphic and written teaching materials. 6. Keep routine records. 7. Assist in ordering and caring for classroom equipment and supplies. 8. Confer as needed with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet the needs of students. 9. Administer and grade various types of tests. 10. Perform a wide variety of clerical and typing duties. 11. Perform related duties as assigned. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Correct English usage, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation and arithmetic; general classroom procedures and equipment. ABILITY TO: Assist with instructional activities in a classroom; learn the procedures, functions, and limitations of assigned Instructional Assistant duties; understand the needs of students; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain working relationships with teachers, students, and others contacted in the course of the work; type and perform routine clerical duties. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school, supplemented by training and/or experience working with children in a learning situation. Bilingual Spanish/English required. Must take paraprofessional exam. To schedule exam, contact Mary Alyce Stephens at 707-890-3800 ext. 80607 Exam will take about 3 hours to complete. A passing grade is required prior to first day of work.
