About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. CLASS TITLE: SITE SAFETY ASSISTANT


BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of an assigned administrator, patrol and supervise campus activities to assure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors in non-classroom activities; enforce and assure student compliance with school and District rules, regulations and procedures.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Patrol and supervise campus, assuring students are safe, orderly, secure and within supervised areas; assure non-students on campus are authorized visitors; monitor lunch areas, walkways, restrooms, parking lots and adjacent streets, grounds and areas.

Enforce school and District rules, regulations and procedures; respond to complaints from students, teachers, parents and others; investigate and report unusual, suspicious or criminal activities; prevent or break up student conflicts and fights; investigate and report instances of graffiti and vandalism.

Monitor student behavior and activity before and after school, and during passing periods, breaks and lunchtime; assure students arrive to class in a timely manner; assure students have proper permission slips outside of classrooms during instruction periods.

Confer with students, administrators, faculty, staff and others concerning student behavior and assigned activities; interview students, staff and others concerning incidents; report incidents involving students and the public to appropriate staff, faculty or administrator.

Escort and direct authorized visitors to desired destinations; provide general information and assistance; escort delinquent students to and from administration offices; retrieve students as requested by administrators; receive and route telephone calls as required.

Monitor campus for illegal activity; provide information to, confer with and assist law enforcement agencies concerning legal matters involving students.

Assist staff with student behavior problems; monitor classrooms and respond to classroom disruptions as needed.

Operate various equipment such as a two-way radio and golf cart; utilize standard office equipment as required.

Maintain routine records related to assigned activities.

Provide security during sporting events, graduation or other special events and activities as assigned.

Lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate; assist students with opening lockers as needed.

Maintain traffic control in parking lots as assigned.

Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; assist with first aid activities and respond to emergency situations as needed.

Participate in a variety of other assigned activities such as providing back-up receptionist and other office staff coverage, distributing food service supplies and duplicating materials.

Valid First Aid and CPR Certification issued by an authorized agency.
