We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. ANTIOCH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: LIBRARY MEDIA TECHNICIAN II BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Principal, perform a variety of library duties in the acquisition, circulation, maintenance, processing and distribution of textbooks, library books and instructional materials at an assigned middle or high school site; assist students and teachers in the selection, location and use of library materials and equipment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Library Media Technician II classification is assigned to a middle or high school library. Incumbents coordinate textbook circulation and are responsible for maintaining a larger and more diverse collection of library materials. The Library Media Technician I classification is assigned to an elementary school library. Incumbents perform a variety of library duties involved in the acquisition, circulation, maintenance, processing and distribution of books and instructional materials. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Perform a variety of library duties in the acquisition, circulation, maintenance, processing and distribution of textbooks, library books and instructional materials at an assigned middle or high school site; process new library books and instructional materials; maintain the library collection in a neat and orderly condition. Assist students, teachers and others in the selection, location and use of library materials and equipment; respond to inquiries and provide information to students and teachers; assist students in locating instructional materials for classroom use, reports and projects. Circulate textbooks, library books, media and instructional materials; check materials in and out to students and staff using an assigned computerized system; visit classrooms to distribute and collect textbooks and instructional materials as assigned; sort and shelve new and returned books and materials; mend and repair damaged books; purge obsolete materials as needed. Process and receive library materials; prepare textbooks, library books, instructional materials and other media for introduction into the library collection; inspect shipments for conformity to purchase order specifications; prepare and affix barcodes, stamps and identification labels to materials; input related information into assigned computer system. Promote the use of the library to faculty and students; conduct library orientations; advise students in proper methods of utilizing library and reference materials and systems; provide training and assistance to students concerning the operation of library computers and related peripheral equipment and software applications; explain related practices, procedures and techniques. Input and update circulation and various other data in an assigned computer system; utilize computer to extract and verify data and information; establish and maintain automated records and files; initiate queries and generate computerized reports. Monitor and maintain acceptable student behavior in the library; assure student compliance with established library rules and policies. Compile information and prepare and maintain various lists, records and reports related to books, instructional materials, circulation, students, overdue materials, attendance, inventory, classes and assigned activities; maintain and update library calendars and schedules. Calculate, collect, process and account for fees for lost or overdue books; issue receipts and prepare deposits; maintain, balance and update student accounts and related records; generate and distribute lost or overdue book notices to students and parents; utilize a cash register and balance cash drawer as required; sell school supplies to students as assigned. Monitor inventory levels of books, instructional materials and other library supplies; order books and other instructional materials and supplies as directed; prepare and distribute purchase orders as required; assist with ordering instructional equipment as assigned. Communicate with District students, personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; compose and distribute various correspondence related to overdue materials and assigned activities. Operate a variety of office and library equipment such as a copier, laminator, fax machine, typewriter, computer and assigned software; check audio-visual equipment in and out to faculty as assigned; maintain and perform minor repairs on library computers, copiers and printers as required. Train and provide work direction and guidance to student assistants as required. Organize and prepare library displays, decorations and bulletin boards as required; maintain a clean library environment. OTHER DUTIES: Perform related duties as assigned. Provide technical information and assistance to students, faculty and others concerning the research, selection, location and use of library materials and equipment. Monitor and maintain acceptable student behavior in the library. Process and shelve library materials. Prepare books and other materials for introduction into the library materials collection. Inventory, order and receive instructional materials and equipment. Check textbooks, library materials and equipment in and out to students and staff. Operate a computer and assigned software. Maintain files and records and prepare reports. Calculate and collect fees for lost or overdue books as needed. Type or input data at 40 words per minute from clear copy. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Use assigned software at an intermediate level. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and three years clerical or library experience including work with computer operations and library circulation functions.
