The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. OCDE’s vision is that “Orange County students will lead the nation in college and career readiness and success.” Department staff are working to achieve this goal in collaboration with educators at all levels of student development, from early childhood through higher education, and in partnership with families, businesses and community organizations.

Job Summary

Job Summary

We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to work as Academic Support Assistants (ASA), under general supervision, provides academic assistance to students in reading, writing, mathematics and other subject areas including science and social studies; English Language Development (ELD), study skills, test preparation, life skills, college and career preparation, occupational training and/or job readiness skills. This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list. Programs: Title I- The Title I Tutoring Program's mission is to provide quality, supplementary academic assistance for a wide range of students placed in 24-hour residential facilities or ACCESS school sites throughout Orange County. The first priority of Title I ASA is to motivate students to be active participants in their education. ASAs will conduct individual assessments that become the basis for the development of academic goals and instructional lesson plans. Title III- The EL Services team at ACCESS has two primary goals: to ensure ELs achieve proficiency in English and learn academic English necessary for school, career, and life success. ASAs provide supplemental support both inside and outside the classroom to our English language learners. This support is provided in one-on-one, small group or whole class settings. ASA’s support teachers with implementation of the ELD curriculum. CCPA- College and Career Preparatory Academy is a charter school year-round independent study program for students ages 18-25 seeking to complete their high school requirements. Students meet on-on-one with their teacher for a minimum of 60 minutes per week and are required to complete 20 hours of homework weekly. Pacific Coast High School - ASAs are assigned individually to work with students recommended by the teach staff to provide extra help with time management, life skills, and specific academic support.

Education, Experience, and Training Guidelines: Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge and abilities would be: • One year of experience working with children in an organized setting and one of the following: • Completion of at least two years of study at a college or university; OR, • An Associate of Arts degree; OR, • Satisfactory completion of an approved OCDE test - ESSA Exam Documents: The following documents are required for this position for proof of 60 semester units or the completion of an AA Degree Copy of transcripts or copy of your graduation certificate (Please upload copies to your application)
