Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
Under general supervision, to assist teachers in supervising the classroom, playground, and other activities of students; to relieve teachers of routine clerical and authorized instructional duties; and to do other aide duties as assigned. Positions in this class may be found in a variety of instructional areas such as special education, compensatory education, and remedial education. While the subject areas may be different, the duties performed are essentially similar. Listens to and drills individuals or small groups of students in reading, spelling, mathematics, and other subjects according to instructions and guidance from a teacher; performs a variety of routine and record keeping activities such as taking roll, collecting monies, filling out forms and applications, and correcting papers; assists the teacher in maintaining classroom discipline; sets up and arranges supplies and equipment in the classroom for student use; prepares labels, charts, bulletin boards, and displays as instructed; decorates classrooms; operates various office equipment such as ditto and copy machines; operates audio-visual equipment; observes activities of children on the playground or in the cafeteria and maintains order according to school policy; runs errands for the teacher.

Application, current resume and 3 letters of reference. AA Degree or higher, or passage of District test (NCLB Requirement); experience working with children in grades K-12. Valid First Aid, CPR and AED Certificated issued by an authorized agency. Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Certificate within 130 days of employment. Ability to lift 25 - 50 lbs. Ability to run and walk on uneven or rugged terrain

Under the direction of Special Education Staff; to provide and implement education directed learning experiences for individual students with severe learning needs in support of the student's specialized needs and adherence to the Individual Education Plans (IEP). Meet the physical, emotional and therapeutic needs of the student; to provide appropriate prompts, discriminative stimuli, consequences to behaviors; to pace tasks as specified by the supervisor and/or IEP; to maintain a suitable learning environment for all students; assist in preparation of instructional materials, implementation of lessons and adherence to the IEP. Implement behavior management and instruction modification for severely handicapped and emotionally disturbed students. Provide routine clerical support. Positions may be assigned to elementary schools, junior high or high schools. Assignments will be with special needs students in Coast Unified School District and may include classroom collaboration to achieve the IEP goals.
