The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary
The OCDE is looking for a dynamic individual for its Curriculum Specialist, Esports Scholastic Instructional Coach. This position is a critical lever in providing teachers with access to the Esports curriculum while also improving student achievement. The role of the Instructional Coach is to build educator capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as integrated with Esports. An Instructional Coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. The Instructional Coach will work collaboratively with members of the NASEF Learning Committee as well as the educators/fellows involved in the piloting of esports curriculum in middle school and high school. This role will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, and providing feedback face-to-face and virtually to educators around the county. The Instructional Coach will demonstrate and model a passion for innovative education reform and leadership. Funding for this position is based on a two year contract with the possibility of continuing beyond the two years. Education, Training and Experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in an educational program. Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in an educational program. Credential: A valid California credential authorizing service in a public school program.
