School Nurse
The primary role of the professional school nurse is to promote the health and well-being of students, thereby facilitating student success and achievement. The school nurse oversees the health services programs at multiple school sites. School Nursing services are provided to both general and special education students as mandated under federal and state laws. This person will be expected to adhere to the Standards of School Nurse Practice, Nevada Revised Statutes, Nevada State Board of Nursing Advisory Opinion and CCSD Professional Domains and Standards for Licensed Employees and report directly to the appropriate Health Services administrator (NRS ch. 632 and 391; NSBN).

Education and Training:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an National League of Nursing (NLN) accredited college or university.
2. Minimum of six (6) months work experience as a registered nurse.

Licenses and Certifications:

1. Must possess, or be able to acquire, a license from the Nevada State Board of Nursing and School Nurse certification from the Nevada Department of Education.
2. Current Health Care Provider AED/CPR certification from an American Heart Association.
3. A valid driver’s license that allows the applicant / employee to legally operate an insured motor vehicle in Nevada.

Occupational Therapist 

The occupational therapist will implement school board and special education policies and
procedures in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) for students with disabilities under the direction of the administration assigned to the Student Support Services Division. The occupational therapist will provide occupational therapy services to students with disabilities as outlined in the Individual Education Plan (IEP), as enrolled in a CCSD special education program or as referred for assessment. The focus of therapy is not rehabilitative in nature, but viewed as needed educational support for students.

This person will be expected to adhere to the CCSD Professional Domains and Standards for Licensed Employees and report directly to the assigned supervisor of the Occupational Therapy Department.

Education and Training:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university.
2. Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy (applicable to new graduates as of 2007).

Licenses and Certifications:
1. Possess or be able to acquire a Nevada license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (optional).
2. Possess a license issued by the Occupational Therapy board of Nevada (State of Nevada Department of Health).
3. National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) for initial license in Nevada.
4. A valid driver’s license that allows the applicant /employee to legally operate a motor vehicle in Nevada.

Physical Therapist 

The physical therapist will implement school board and special education policies and

2. Possess a license(s) issued by the Physical Therapy Board of Nevada (State of Nevada Department of Health).
3. A valid driver’s license that allows the applicant /employee to legally operate a motor vehicle in Nevada.

The Clark County School District Health Services Department leadership is comprised of a Director of Health Services/Chief Nurse and six Health Services Coordinators. The department employs over 250 School Nurses, Specialized Procedures Nurses, and unlicensed support staff personnel.. School health focuses on students, families and school communities to promote health, safety, and student readiness to learn. The role of the school nurse is to identify the health-related barriers that prevent students from full participation in the educational setting and empower students to reach their full academic potential. Responsibilities include emergency response, student case management, acute and chronic disease care and referral, mandated screening, physical assessments, care planning, specialized nursing procedures, multidisciplinary collaboration, health education, and counseling. The role of a Specialized Procedure Nurse is to provide direct nursing care services such as diabetic care, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy tube nutrition and hydration, catheterizations and other medically necessary procedures so students are able to attend school.

REQUIREMENTS: * Minimum of a BSN degree from an accredited college or university. * A Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Nevada State Board of Nursing. * A Nevada Department of Education license with School Nurse Endorsement. * Six months experience as a Registered Nurse. * Valid CPR certification . * Valid Driver's License. Specialized Procedure Nurse Qualifications: A college or vocational degree in Practical Nursing, or a Diploma in Nursing/ADN degree from an accredited college or university; a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Nevada State Board of Nursing, and CPR/AED/First Aid Certifications.
