CLASS TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIST

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services, perform a variety of duties requiring excellent communication skills; utilize specialized knowledge and independent judgment involving frequent and responsible public contact; serve as technical expert for instructional and technology related programs throughout the District; provide a wide variety of one-on-one and group instruction; assist and troubleshoot problems common to advanced microcomputers and software used for administration, education and libraries.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Provide in-classroom and/or computer lab support related to the use of technology in integrated curriculum projects.

 

Plan, coordinate and manage the daily operations of the District’s computerized student information system including the following: assure integrity of student information data and reports, provide front-end support to district staff; run queries and prepare reports; program calendars, schedules and course records; enter and update staff records; create and manage individual accounts and groups.

 

Manage other district approved software databases, manage user accounts, update course and staff records, run queries, prepare reports, and manage updates and licenses.

 

Manage the district website and provide support to schools for staff accounts.

 

Manage and provide support for phone dialer software and other testing software.

 

Provide workshops on the use of technology, based on both formal and informal assessments of teacher needs – early release and/or district professional development days.

 

Provide computer lab management training for teachers.

 

Serve as technical expert for approved instructional and related programs throughout the District.

 

Work closely with Educational Services and the Technology Department, principals, teachers and other instructional staff throughout the District.

 

Work closely with Educational Services and the Technology Department to develop and disseminate a knowledge base of solutions to common technology problems. Review and resolve technology issues related to instructional services. 

 

Provide training and participate in meetings and conferences related to assigned area.

 

In group settings or on a one-to-one basis, instruct and illustrate the use of a variety of business and educational software such as learning tools, word processing, spreadsheet and graphics. 

 

Conduct training and perform diagnosis on more advanced software.

 

Install stand alone and networked computers; install and customize applications software and other associated programs and files.

 

Receive and respond to calls and personal inquiries regarding questions on common to advanced personal computer software and the input and output of information to and from computer hardware.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Personal computer operations, including the relationship and usage of various input and output components, business and education support software and terminology.

Protocols and procedures for setting up new equipment, troubleshooting and routine maintenance.

Use and application of PC-based and Mac-based software, Internet and connectivity software.

Individual and group instruction on common software.

Correct English usage grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Any combination equivalent to:  graduation from high school supplemented by a college-level course work in microcomputer hardware and software components, microcomputer operation systems and data communications software. 

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

Valid California driver’s license and proof of current California auto liability insurance at time of appointment and throughout employment in this classification. Personal automobile for job-related travel. CCNA and/or MCSE preferred.
