About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Distinguishing Characteristics: The Head Custodian I classification serves as a lead at an assigned elementary school site. The Head Custodian II classification serves as a lead at an assigned middle school site. The Head Custodian III classification serves as a lead at an assigned high school site.

Basic Function: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, lead and participate in a variety of custodial activities during an assigned shift to assure elementary schools buildings and adjacent grounds areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, safe and secure condition; train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned personnel. Required Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years’ experience performing custodial activities. Knowledge of: Proper methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in modern custodial work; Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning floors, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures; Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies; Requirements of maintaining District buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition; Principles of training and providing work direction; Oral and written communication skills; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Appropriate safety precautions and procedures; Record-keeping techniques; Proper lifting techniques (see job description for full details). SELECTION AND EXAMINATIONS: Incomplete applications will be disqualified. Supplemental questions will be scored Pass/No Pass - a passing score will allow you to proceed in the testing process. The selection process will consist of a competitive application and supplemental screening for completeness, experience and qualifications, a written exam (weighted 40%) and an oral interview exam (weighted 60%). A passing score must be achieved on each portion of the exams. The Written exam is expected to be held on October 2, 2019 and the Oral panel interviews are to be determined. If your application is accepted to move forward with the examination process, you will be notified via U. S. mail and/or email of the time and location.
