Requirements / Qualifications

Job Purpose Statement: Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Accountability, the Homeless Youth Coordinator plans, organizes, implements, coordinates and monitors educational support services for homeless youth provided by the McKinney-Vento Youth programs; establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with, and serves as a liaison to schools, County Offices of Education, local and state agencies and organizations addressing the needs of homeless youth in El Dorado County. Essential Job Functions: - Supports implementation of services of McKinney-Vento legislation pertaining to the homeless youth program; - Assists District and County Student Program Homeless Liaisons and other agencies to effectively coordinate services for homeless youth and children; - Maintains current partnerships and develops further sustainable partnerships with community service groups to provide the clothing, school supplies, food and other services that students need to attend and learn in school; - Delivers staff development and training to schools and agencies regarding homeless youth; - Develops a consistent county-level system for communicating with parents about the option of continuous enrollment in their child’s school when they move and a system for identifying homeless youth to assist in immediate identification and services; - Prepares end-of-year evaluation instruments for program; - Provides data for state reporting requirements; - Works cooperatively with a variety of groups and agencies such as mental health, child protective services, schools and other local organizations serving homeless youth; - Facilitates transfer of educational records; - Maintains records required by the California Department of Education and the El Dorado County Office of Education; - Performs related duties, as assigned.

Job Requirements - Qualifications: - Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in education, psychology, social sciences, health services, or closely related fields is preferred; - Three (3) or more years of comprehensive and directly related, progressive experience with children and adolescent services; - Experience in an educational setting is highly desirable; - Experience in staff development, presentations to community organizations, and program administration desirable. Skills and Knowledge Required: - Understand current issues pertaining to homeless youth in regard to education and special education; - Laws, regulations and policies related to homeless youth; - Program development; administration and evaluation methods; - Local and state organizations addressing the needs of homeless youth.
