DEFINTION The Counseling Technician, under the direction of the Assistant Principal, assists the high school counselors, providing paraprofessional services to relieve the professional staff of detailed tasks which are primarily clerical and procedural in nature. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Routine programming of students and may assist in registration. • Monitors student records, attendance and truancies. • Assists with counseling and competency requirements. • Notifies students and parents as to course and program requirements or deficiencies. • Maintains records of competency and proficiency scores. • May assist with student supervision and guidance at assemblies, lunch and snack breaks. • Performs routine clerical tasks and maintains data entry. • Performs related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: • Course program procedures. • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. • Health regulations and safe working methods and procedures. • Proper lifting techniques. • District policies, rules and regulations. Ability to: • Perform clerical tasks with acceptable speed and accuracy. • Work effectively under frequent stressful situations. • Represent the school district creditably in contacts with the public and representatives of other schools. • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. • Observe health and safety regulations. • Work cooperatively with others. • Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Education/Training/Required Certification: • High school graduate or equivalent. • Two (2) years of clerical experience. • Experience at a secondary school desirable..
