Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
Network-Computer Technician 748 Under general direction of Technology Coordinator: help plan, implement and maintain the technology services of the school district. Responsibilities include oversight of District servers, E-mail systems, routers, bridges, gateways, hubs, switches, computers, Internet networks, fiberoptic cable plants, digital building wiring, computer repair, software distribution and computer training. This is a “hands-on” position and requires ability to make computers and networks functional. Examples of Duties 1. Reviews computer network plans for school sites, to assure compliance with standards for installation and insures vendors complete projects; 2. Assists with computer repair; 3. Works with computer operators in correction of problems with student information systems. 4. Monitors Districts central computer servers and networks and modifies software and hardware to maintain operational performance. 5. Assists in the review of equipment bids for computers and networks; 6. Coordinates training of students and other staff on computers and networks. 7. Troubleshoots Macintosh and Wintel computer systems, hardware and software; 8. Troubleshoots Novel, NT, and UNIX servers modifies and corrects system parameters or coordinates with vendors for correction and maintenance; 9. Insure security of District data; 10. Documents Network wiring and fiber optics on campuses; 11. Pulls wire and connects networks together; 12. Installs and updates software on network devices; 13. Other duties as assigned. Desired Qualifications 1. School District site experience; 2. Computer operations including security, backup, operation, printing and magnetic media; 3. Experience in operation and set up of mail server systems on mainframe and/or DOS and Macintosh platforms; 4. Familiarity with serial, parallel, coax, fiberoptic, local talk, ethernet, token ring media, and network design; 5. Experience doing computer repair and network management; 6. Experience in training computer clients in mail systems, software systems, and library automation. Education, Experience and Training 1. College level coursework in computer networks and computer trouble shooting. 2. Vendor specific training for micro computer operating systems. 3. Progressive experience with technology in an educational environment or equivalent experience or education. 4. Training in Internet, E-mail, word processing, spreadsheets and databases. 5. High school Diploma or equivalent 6. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception and peripheral vision.
