THE POSITION: The Personnel Assistant provides general administrative support in the delivery of personnel services to classified employees, under Merit System Guidelines, with specific responsibility for supporting department staff; providing general information and assistance to employees, administrators, job applicants, and the general public; maintaining records; and completing assigned projects and tasks in a timely manner. This job reports to the Assigned Administrator. LOCATION: 313 W. Winton Ave. Hayward, CA 94544 TYPICAL DUTIES: Assists with employment process (e.g. record checks, appointment scheduling, form and claims processing, employment verifications, etc.) for the purpose of meeting staffing requirements while complying with established guidelines. Compiles data from a variety of sources (e.g. applicants, employees, other department personnel, etc.) for the purpose of inputting employee information into computer system and complying with established practices and/or administrative requirements. Greets individuals entering the office (e.g. visitors, employees, applicants, vendors, independent contractors, etc.) for the purpose of responding to inquiries; and/or directing individuals to appropriate location in accordance with established building security procedures. Maintains and organizes an inventory of supplies and materials (e.g. employee badges, applications, job fair materials, personnel forms, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring items' availability for Department as needed. Maintains a variety of employment files (e.g. available position listings, independent contractors' contracts, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and/or complying with mandated requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year related experience and/or training. Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Equivalency: Equivalent combination of education and experience.
