About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. The Antioch Unified School District is a Merit System District. As such, final selection of our classified staff members will be made from candidates who have been placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility is determined via an evaluation and competitive screening/scoring of a candidate’s training and experience as demonstrated on the application and responses provided in the supplemental questions.

This recruitment is for substitute / on-call employment in the classification of Instructional Assistant, Instructional Assistant Special Education, and Instructional Assistant Special Needs. These paraprofessional positions are for those not seeking permanent/regular work. It is for those that are interested in working on-call and as-needed to service student’s needs during employee absences or position vacancies. This recruitment is NOT for the use of an eligibility list to employ permanent employees. INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT (Salary Range 118) Hourly Rate: Step A $17.14 INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT – SPECIAL NEEDS (Salary Range 121) Hourly Rate: Step A $18.45 INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT – SPECIAL EDUCATION (Salary Range 122) Hourly Rate: Step A $18.91 Hours/Months: Hours Vary Daily: 0 to 6 per day, 10 Months - Student Attendance Days Only Number of Substitutes Needed: 20 APPLICATION DEADLINE: Until Filled. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school or equivalent; experience working with children in an educational or child care setting; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. BASIC FUNCTIONS: IA: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of identified Title I students in a classroom, laboratory or other learning environment; tutor students in assigned subject areas; provide clerical program support. IASN: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of special needs students; assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of individual education plans; provide routine clerical support. IASE: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide instructional support and assistance to teachers and students assigned to a designated special education instructional program; perform a variety of support activities related to behavior management and classroom instruction of special education students; perform a variety of clerical support duties related to classroom and program activities.
