About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. BASIC FUNCTION: Under the supervision of assigned administrator and direction of a credentialed District nurse, perform specialized physical health care services for students; travel to various school sites to perform a wide variety of health care duties and student health monitoring; prepare and maintain a variety of health records; assist teachers and other staff in the instruction, supervision and training of individual or groups of regular and special education students; maintain a healthy and safe environment for students and staff.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Modern medical terminology, equipment and techniques; accepted methods and principles of personal hygiene; basic diagnostic methods for medical conditions and diseases; accepted medical assessment techniques; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Pubic health agencies and local health care resources; health and safety regulations; operation of specialized medical equipment, machines and instruments. Record keeping techniques; proper lifting and moving of handicapped students; District organization, operations, policies and procedures. (PLEASE SEE FULL JOB DESCRIPTION FOR FURTHER DETAILS) REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & LICENSES: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by college-level course work in nursing or related field and two years related health care experience. Possession of a valid California license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN), valid California driver’s license, and a valid First Aid/CPR certification. SELECTION & EXAMINATIONS: The selection process will consist of an application screening for completeness, qualifications and experience. Accepted qualified applicants will be notified via U.S. mail of the date, time and location of the exams. A written exam (weighted 40% of total) and an oral panel interview (weighted 60% of total) will be conducted to create an eligibility list. A passing score must be achieved on each portion of the exams. Final selection for permanent vacancies will be made from those who achieve the three highest ranking scores. Substitute applications will be reviewed weekly. If your application meets the qualifications and screening, you will be contacted by telephone and/or email regarding an interview exam.
