Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District Human Resources Department 375 Via Almar Palos Verdes Estates, Ca. 90274 (310) 896-3417 Contracted Employee School Resource Officer (2 Positions) JOB DESCRIPTION Supervisor – High School Principals Work Year – 12 months with flexible hours including evenings, weekends and athletic events Salary – $100,000 Overview A school resource officer (SRO) is a full-time law enforcement officer with sworn law enforcement authority, trained in school-based policing and crisis response, assigned by the District in coordination with the local law enforcement agencies to work with the school using community-oriented policing concepts. Qualifications • Reserve/Retired Deputy Sheriff with five (5) years of law enforcement experience as a Deputy Sheriff under penal code section 830.1 • Training in school-based policing • Training related to school safety topics. These topics may include, but are not limited to: Crisis Planning, Active Threat Response, Adolescent Mental Health • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Major Duties & Responsibilities • Provide a highly visible uniformed law enforcement officer presence on the campuses of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. • Serve as a resource for teachers, parents and students for conferences dealing with individual problems or questions. • Coordinate all activities with the principal and staff members concerned; seek permission, guidance, and advice prior to enacting any programs within the school • Prevent disruptions that would, if ignored, place students, faculty or staff at risk of harm, the SRO will mitigate the disruption and report to school administration. • Refer information regarding students violating the code of conduct to the principal or principal's designee. • Assist Student Attendance Review Board (S.A.R.B.) meetings by providing law enforcement action as needed. • Schedule security activities as needed
