Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

Essential duties & responsibilities:

  • Develop, write and/or help implement IEPs and 504 plans. Manage and provide instructional guidance, teaching and general strategies for a caseload of students.
  • Collaborate, co-plan and co-teach with teachers to develop and implement differentiated lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with Common Core State Standards, WISH Signature Practices and Instructional Guidelines, and to address diverse student needs.  Share best practices.
  • Create and implement co-planning and co-teaching schedule with teachers.
  • Communicate regularly with parents; administrators, teachers, para-educators, learning coaches of students with special needs to insure that their IEP goals are being met, and that their needs are addressed in a timely and appropriate fashion.
  • Consult with teachers and para-educators to coordinate the implementation of specially designed instruction as defined in the IEP regarding students with specific needs and potential learning issues.
  • Schedule, organize and conduct IEP/504 related meetings as needed.
  • Participate in the school’s Team Meetings as needed. Help teachers and learning coaches develop and implement action plans, program modifications and strategies.
  • Assist, as needed, with the organization and proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the IEP process.
  • Assist with locating service providers for students needing related services as mandated by their IEPs.
  • Assist with administering state testing and coordinate the special adaptations that are required based on the IEP.
  • Communicate regularly with students and their families about classroom activities and student progress. Involve parents and guardians as partners in their students’ education.
  • Provide a high quality, constructivist educational program for WISH Charter Middle School students.
  • Provide a balanced approach to instruction that incorporates blended learning, project-based learning, direct instruction, interdisciplinary units, and challenge based learning experiences.
  • Utilize personalized and differentiated instruction and supports to empower and inspire learners to reach their highest potential.
  • Establish a safe and inclusive culture of high expectations that embodies the shared belief that important academic, social, and ethical skills and attitudes are developed when students with various strengths, needs, and backgrounds learn together.
  • Consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes his or her instructional program.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities, including working closely with lead teachers, principal, and instructional coaches.
  • Support the Mission, Philosophy, and Core Tenets of WISH Charter Middle School.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Minimum educational level, Required Knowledge & Abilities: * Degree in Special Education or related Education Field * Valid California Special Education/Education Specialist instruction credential in mild/moderate disabilities and/or moderate/severe disabilities * English Language Learner Authorization required * NCLB Highly Qualified * Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles and modalities. * Knowledge of subject matter, including California State Standards; Common Core State Standards, and subject-specific frameworks. * Ability and willingness to implement WISH Instructional Guidelines; Practices, and Core Tenets. * Ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents and community.
