8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 220 days per year beginning July 1, 2019 pending successful fingerprint clearance and submission of a recent tuberculosis test as required by the California Education Code.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of, and in cooperation with, the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, the Director for Alternative Education administers on a daily basis the instructional programs, staff and students of the Court and Community Schools. The Director is also responsible to assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of grant-funded projects and interagency programs targeted for at-risk youth in Mendocino County. The Director provides curriculum and instructional leadership, and has a lead role in working with various local program advisory committees, school/district administrators and community-based agency personnel. Budget development and monitoring is a shared responsibility of the Director working in cooperation with the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and other central office staff. Serve as the lead for the county office SARB (School Attendance Review Board). Develop programs that serve at-risk youth countywide.

• Possess an appropriate California Administrative Credential; • Possess a valid California Teaching Credential; • Demonstrate competence in communicating effectively with staff, other district personnel, and community representatives; • Possess at least seven (7) years successful teaching, counseling, and/or administrative experience with a minimum of at least three (3) years of experience, preferably in a program serving at-risk youth. • Experience/training in program and budget planning; staff and curriculum development; staff/program evaluation; staff motivation and consensus building; • Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver’s License; • Provide proof of automobile insurability; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively, including lifting twenty-five (25) pound on an occasional basis and in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds with assistance.
