About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. The Antioch Unified School District is a Merit System District. As such, final selection of our classified staff members will be made from candidates who have been placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility is determined via an evaluation and competitive screening/scoring of a candidate’s training and experience as demonstrated on the application and responses provided in the supplemental questions.

Requirement: Paraprofessional Proficiency Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): If you have 48 higher education semester units, an AA degree or higher or have passed a proficiency examination and received a Certificate, you qualify to apply for an AUSD paraprofessional classification. Please include verification of compliance with your application. If your application passes the screening process, you will be contacted by the Human Resources office. If you do not meet the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Paraprofessional Proficiency Requirement (above), you may still apply and your application will be screened for completeness and minimum qualifications. If your application is accepted, you will be contacted by the Human Resources office to schedule a date to take the Antioch Unified School District Assessment Exam.

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide instructional support and assistance to teachers and students assigned to a designated special education instructional program; perform a variety of support activities related to behavior management and classroom instruction of special education students; perform a variety of clerical support duties related to classroom and program activities. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school or equivalent; experience working with children in an educational or child care setting; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Some positions in this classification may require possession of a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency. EXAMINATIONS: A written proficiency exam (weighted 60% of your score) and an oral interview (weighted 40% of your score) will be conducted. A passing score must be achieved on each portion of the exam. Final selection will be made from those who achieve the three highest ranking scores. If your application is accepted to move forward with the testing process, you will be notified via U.S. Mail of the date and location of the exam.
