The Chief Officer will have the ability to enhance and build upon a well-defined communications structure focused on a three-pronged approach to public relations: strategic communications, community engagement and broadcast operations. CIO will oversee, support and contribute to the daily operation of both internal and external communications including writing, emergency response, media relations and positive storytelling. This includes press releases, high-level speeches, background papers, fact sheets, production scripts, district newspaper content and developing communication plans. The CIO ensures that photos and video products are captured, processed, collected and distributed in a timely manner; manages the development of special events, public service campaigns, video documentation, special productions and live remote interviews; in conjunction with the department’s public information officer, develops and maintains positive working relationships with the news media based on open and honest communication, further supporting the District’s commitment to transparency; may provide additional support as spokesperson at public forums; is responsible for the development, execution and training of a unified crisis communication plan for any incident that may affect the District; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Fresno Unified’s Safety and Security Department; organizes a successful grassroots operation to engage civic, religious and union leaders in a variety of programs offered by Fresno Unified School District; and establishes successful partnerships with companies/organizations in the region in support of community initiatives and educational opportunities for students/educators.

*Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, broadcasting, media, human relations, and/or marketing and public relations *Five years of recent administrative experience or consulting experience primarily in media and communications with at least three years of the experience in communications-media relationships preferably involving programs or services regarding major public interest or public education issues. *Valid California driver’s license.
