Job Summary

Job Summary

Under the direction of Director I, Student Support Services & Alternative Education, the job of Director, School Safety plans, coordinates, implements, and supports emergency preparedness, school safety strategies, law enforcement-based crisis management activities, and procedures in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines for the Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD). This position will serve in a leadership capacity for development, training, and implementation of safety plans.

Education and Experience This position requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to: a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, public administration, forensic science, or other closely related fields, and at least ten (10) years of increasing responsibility in the areas of emergency management and law enforcement. Active in law enforcement or still possess a valid POST Certificate. Preferred: Experience in working with youth, community policing, ICS training, ATAP training, administrative and criminal investigations experience, de-escalation training, cultural competency training, and social media savvy. This position also requires, at time of hire, a valid CA drivers license to travel to school sites in GUHSD. Valid First Aid and CPR Certification is required within six months of hire. Reports to Director, Student Support Services & Alternative Education. Certificates and Licenses • Valid California Driver’s License • POST Management Certificate

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required in decision making, problem solving, performing multiple tasks, oral and written communication, presentations, preparing and maintaining accurate records and related management skills. KNOWLEDGE of District, county, state and federal regulations, policies, codes, laws and procedures pertaining to school safety; law enforcement and emergency services; and knowing the demographics of the community. ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; conduct group/parent training and presentations; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; and working as part of a team.
